The Albany State University National Alumni Association, Inc. (ASUNAA) established the ASUNAA Scholarship Award Program to recognize, encourage and reward undergraduate students who: are in good academic standing at Albany State University (ASU). Students must demonstrate a financial need; have a record of leadership in school and in the community; have the potential to become active alumni who will support Albany State University (ASU) and ASUNAA; and contribute to their communities.
In keeping with its tradition of assisting students, the ASUNAA Board of Directors is proud to offer financial assistance for the Spring Semester of the 2025-2026 academic school year to students enrolled at ASU. The ASUNAA established the NextGen Leadership Scholarship[1] to: recognize students that exhibit outstanding leadership at Albany State University (ASU); encourage engagement with the Association; and support the next generation of leaders.Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, gender, disability, national origin, or any other applicable legally protected status.
ELIGIBILITY
The student:
- Was enrolled as a full-time student at ASU during the Fall and Spring Semesters of the 2024-2025 academic school year and Fall Semester of the 2025-2026 academic school year.
- Will be enrolled as a full-time student at ASU during the Spring Semester of the 2025-2026 academic school year.
- Has a current cumulative grade point average (GPA)of 2.7 or higher and upon enrollment as a full-time student for the Spring Semester of the 2025-2026 academic school year.
- Can exhibit outstanding leadership abilities through specific activities and events.
- Can demonstrate a financial need.
- Is a U.S. Citizen or legal permanent resident with a valid permanent resident card or passport with a temporary I-551 stamp.
APPLICATION PROCESS - How to Apply
- The completed application and all required documents (transcript – official or unofficial), letters of recommendation, and essay must be received electronically by 12:oo Noon(EST) on November 21, 2025. The email address for submission of the application is:asunaascholarship@gmail.com
- The funds awarded will be paid directly to Albany State University.
- The application must be submitted in English on the form provided by the ASUNAA for the scholarship applied.
- The completed application and all required documents (transcript – official or unofficial), letters of recommendation, and essay must be received electronically in a packet with one cover email/letter.
- The transcript (official or unofficial) should be for your most recently completed academic school year (2024-2025); include Fall Semester 2025-2026; reflect courses that are/will be in progress for the Spring Semester of the 2025-2026 academic school year; and cumulative GPA.
- The application must be typewritten. A photograph of the application will not be accepted.
- The application must be completed in its entirety, signed (not electronically), and dated.
- An incomplete application, which also includes not having all the required documents, will not be considered.
- An application received before the opening date or after the closing date will not be reviewed.
VERIFICATION OF POTENTIAL SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT
The potential scholarship recipient’s application packet information as submitted/received is subject to verification by the
ASUNAA Board of Directors whose decisions are final and binding in all matters related to the ASUNAA Scholarship Award
Program. A potential scholarship recipient will not be awarded the scholarship unless and until the applicant’s eligibility
has been verified and the participant has been notified that the verification is complete. Falsification of information
automatically disqualifies a student from receiving the scholarship.
REVIEW PROCESS
The ASUNAA Scholarship Committee will review each application eligible for review using established eligibility and
application requirements for the scholarship. Members of the ASUNAA Scholarship Committee will have access to the
information submitted byeach applicant to evaluate eligibility for the scholarship. Committee members are required to
sign a Confidentiality and Conflict of Interest Statement.
PUBLICITY – SCHOLARSHIP
Except where prohibited by law, participation in the ASUNAA Scholarship Award Program constitutes each applicant’s
consent for the ASUNAA (and its designees; successors and assigns) use or distribution of the applicant’s name photographs,
statements, classification, grade point average, college major, career objectives, hometown, and state for promotional
advertising in any manner or media including without limitation, online on websites and in social media, worldwide, in
perpetuity and without payment, consideration notice review or consent.
NOTIFICATION OF AWARD AND DISBURSEMENT OF FUNDS
Please allow up to 6 weeks from the closing date of this scholarship program for selection decisions to be made (both selected
and non-selected students will be notified). Notification of award will be sent via email to the address provided on the
application. ASUNAA will require a final enrollmentverification (official transcript), an official billing statement,and signed
(not electronically) Letter ofAcceptance. Thescholarship is not officially awarded until a finalist returns the required
documents by the date requested. The funds awarded will be disbursed to ASU onbehalf of the student for the Spring
Semester of the 2025-2026 academic school year.
