Two teachers from Georgia "tapped in" to welcome students back to the new normal of online learning amid the ongoing pandemic with a rap video that has quickly captured everyone's attention on the internet.

Audrianna Williams and Callie Evans showed off their impressive rapping and dance skills with original lyrics set to the tune of Jack Harlow's "What's Poppin'" to get students excited about the start of this unique school year.

The music video of the two Monroe Comprehensive High School teachers from Albany, Georgia, which was shot and edited by Jamel Overstreet, has garnered nearly 300,000 views on Instagram and captured the attention of the artist who rapped the original verse.
"I can't even tell y'all how amazing you are," Harlow told Williams and Evans over a surprise live video introduction on "Good Morning America" Thursday.

Thank you for your diligence in checking your ASU email to stay informed as we face this
unprecedented situation. As you are aware, on Thursday, March 19, we sent a communication
that included a form to reserve a time slot for your housing move-out. We now need to modify
those instructions.

Earlier this afternoon, the City of Albany and Dougherty County instituted a “shelter in place”
ordinance for our area. Based upon actions taken by the City of Albany and Dougherty County
Governments, effective at 8 p.m. tonight, March 20, the housing move-out process will be delayed until further notice.

Mr. Hines from Barack Obama Elementary earns state honor
Mr. Hines stands with superintendent and principal For half a day on Friday, September 13, 2019, DeKalb County School District’s Barack H. Obama Magnet School of Technology transformed into a hub of celebration, fellowship and good will.

Pre-kindergarten teacher Johnathon Hines was named the 2019-2020 Georgia Pre-K Teacher of the Year by the Georgia Department of Education’s Bright from the Start Department of Early Care and Learning. As a winner, Hines received a check for $7,500 which includes a personal stipend of $3,000, $2,500 to use for a classroom makeover and $2,000 for Barack Obama Elementary.

Barack H. Obama Magnet School, DCSD and Bright from the Start representatives joined Hines’ family and friends on the morning of September 13 for a surprise celebration and formal check presentation.

ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Albany State University’s (ASU) president released a statement Tuesday in response to a House representative’s opposition to Senate Bills 273 and 278.

Rep. Calvin Smyre (D-Columbus), also dean of the Georgia House, wrote a letter to Steve Wrigley, University System of Georgia (USG) chancellor, strongly opposing the bills.

ASU President Marion Ross Fredrick issued a statement in response to Symre’s opposition of the bills.

“We appreciate the response of Rep. Calvin Smyre in his letter to Chancellor Steve Wrigley in opposition to Senate Bills 273 and 278. Representative Smyre is a strong supporter of our schools and has been in direct contact with all three HBCU presidents regarding SB 273 and 278. Rep. Smyre has asked the difficult questions and ascertained the negative impact that this bill would have on our institution. Albany State University

“The ASU National Alumni Association does not object to the revised Mission Statement resulting from the consolidation of Albany State University and Darton State College. The fact of the “HBCU” term itself not appearing or not being included in the new mission statement, does not mean, in any way, nor does it imply or infer that Albany State University is no longer a “Historically Black College or University”. Such designation/distinction is based in law and no revision or modification of its mission statement changes this fact”.

----The Higher Education Act of 1965 codified the HBCU designation for all such Colleges/Universities established prior to 1964. These Colleges and Universities had an intention of primarily serving the African-American community and such designation does not change as a result of changes in student make-up or mission change.

of top ranked colleges and universities. Albany State University
is listed among the nation’s top Historically Black Colleges and
Universities and the #1 public HBCU in the state of Georgia for the
second year in a row. ASU made the cut at #13 among all publicHBCUs in the nation.

“We provide an excellent education at Albany State University, an
education that prepares our students to compete on a global
level,” said Interim President Arthur Dunning. “ We are delighted that the work of our faculty, staff and students is being recognized on a national level; we are working diligently to provide even more opportunities for student success.”
